Drop Me Off In New Orleans

Crawfish, Creole Food, Jazz Music and a Brand New Favorite Brewery to Write Home About

Hello friends, long time no chat? That’s about to change as we have a boatload of content and tales of numerous beer tastings that we’ve been dying to share with you. We’ll also be posting taste testing videos, Beers of the Month and numerous other new tidbits. That said, on to the report back from our travels:

This past week saw us hitting the road (AGAIN) where we found ourselves gifted with the opportunity to sample the punchy, last ditch efforts of summer flavors in south eastern Louisiana and I must say I was not the least bit disappointed.

Having never visited Louisiana, a bit of recon was required but after a bit of research and a smidge of Instagram stalking, we set our crosshairs on what I feel are two Louisiana staples that starkly contrast one another: Urban South Brewing and Miel Brewing. I’ll get to my appreciation regarding Miel in the next post but first I want to take a few minutes to gloat about Urban South.

Where to begin…  Imagine living in Louisiana and having an affinity for 90s culture, fanny packs, fluorescent colors and gradients smattered across everything you own: Urban South is your place. How about wanting to take the family out to enjoy a Saturday afternoon, have a few drinks with your significant other and still having the ability to keep a close eye on the kids while they hit the arcade or the bouncy house…Urban South is your place. Need to step out for a drink with your buddies or close friends? Need a place to take a first date? Miss playing the claw machine?… Urban South, Urban South, Urban South… Are you catching my drift yet?

Urban South – New Orleans

I think now that the dust has settled, this was (besides the beer) what impressed me the most about Urban South; The place  somehow manages to jam everything that I would consider entertaining under one roof and then somehow makes it work.

Children at a brewery? Yeah, not normally something I’m interested. Urban South was so big and there were so much going on, that nobody (myself included) seemed to mind one bit that this place was the collision of so many different types of beer drinkers. I absolutely loved this.

Another side note, when you look at the building it doesn’t look small but this building is definitely playing it’s cards close to the vest when it comes to how many square feet Urban South stretches across. That said, on to the beer!

Summer and an unrelenting push from Taylor, has encouraged my recent fondness for sour beer. Urban South loves to produce sour beer and they aren’t shy about it. In my mind only Energy City and Humble Forager rival Urban South when it comes to flavor, thickness and complexity of flavors. Have a craving for a summer flavor? This Louisiana establishment has basically found a way to recreate every single one imaginable.

What we Drank:

Rocket Pop Gose | Lime Cucumber Gose | Oh the Humidity Fruit Sour | Sailing Fruit Sour | Double Spilled | Triple Spilled Fruit Sour | Tropitoulas Fruit Sour | Sur Urbano: Michelada Lager

After drinking and sampling more beer than we’ve tasted at any one location, I can honestly say this is one of my favorite breweries in the entire United States. Love the merch, loved the beer, loved the folks serving it (Southern Hospitality is real) and I also thought the merch was perfect for the mood of the brewery and was happy to snag a few items to support the cause. Cheer all!

Urban South isn’t a brewery…It’s a state of mind.
